The History Of Pizza

The history of pizza began during the 16^th century, when it was sold in the street as a flatbread.  During the 17th century it began to evolve, often topped with oil, tomatoes, and even fish.  In the late 1800s the Margherita Pizza was born.  Garnished with basil, tomatoes, and mozzarella cheese, this pizza was meant to resemble the colors of the Italian flag and was probably the first pizza to be topped with cheese.  The Pizza as we know it first debuted in the United States in the late 19^th Century as Italian immigrants arrived in cities like New York and Chicago.  The history of pizza continues today, with you!
